Five men detained after Victoria Square protest, brought to Sector 1 Court
Bucharest prosecutors are seeking preventive arrest for 30 days for five participants in the shepherds' protest at Victoria Square. Ten gendarmes were injured during the incidents.
Five detained after confrontations at shepherds' protest in Victoria Square
Five men who caused disorder and entered into direct conflict with law enforcement at the shepherds' protest in Victoria Square have been brought to Sector 1 Court. Prosecutors at the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Bucharest Court are seeking preventive arrest for these individuals for 30 days.
According to Gândul, the persons for whom preventive arrest was proposed are Ștefan Ciprian Pamfile, Gabriel Fugel, Viorel Cristian Voinea, Ionuț Nancu and Ciprian Ciucur. All will be represented in court by court-appointed lawyers, who presented themselves at the Sector 1 Court building but refused to comment on the accusations.
The court set the commencement of proceedings regarding the preventive arrest proposal for 21:00, after the case was registered.
Gândul also reports that during the same evening, three other persons were taken in by prosecutors and brought in for questioning.
The farmers' protest on Tuesday, 15 September, ended after hours of tensions in Victoria Square. There were scuffles and confrontations with gendarmes, and law enforcement resorted to tear gas. Several persons were taken to police stations.
According to the balance sheet communicated by the Bucharest Gendarmerie, 47 persons, whom the institution claims committed antisocial acts, were taken to police stations. Ten gendarmes were injured during the incidents, four of whom required transport to hospital for further medical care.
Law enforcement applied 15 administrative penalty fines totalling 21,500 lei. Two Gendarmerie vehicles were damaged as a result of the confrontations.
