Călin Georgescu's wife appears on Alex Jones after DIICOT hearings
Cristela Georgescu will appear on Friday, 9 October, in the broadcast hosted by Alex Jones, one of the best-known far-right influencers in the United States, according to Gândul. The broadcast will be available to watch live from 19:30 on the InfoWars publication's X page.
The appearance comes after four consecutive days in which both Cristela Georgescu and her husband, Călin Georgescu — brought from detention — were present at DIICOT headquarters. Jones describes himself as a "paleoconservative", an American political current that emphasises tradition, limited government and civil society.
Four days of raids and hearings
In Călin Georgescu's case, investigators carried out computer searches on electronic devices seized earlier. His wife was questioned in connection with the accusations brought against the former presidential election candidate. Prosecutors seized a total of 27 devices — mobile phones, laptops, computers and tablets — from the Georgescu family's villa.
Over the last three days, Călin Georgescu has been removed from central detention in the mornings and brought to DIICOT, where investigators are cloning data stored on optical media from the confiscated electronic equipment.
Accusations against the Romanian state
On the first day of hearings, Cristela Georgescu spoke with journalists on leaving DIICOT headquarters and described "brutal interventions" to which, according to her statements, the family was subjected at the moment of her husband's detention. She accused the Romanian state of "merely pretending to be democratic and honest".
Fraud case, 30-day preventive detention
Călin Georgescu is in preventive detention for 30 days, following a decision handed down on 29 September by the Bucharest Court of Appeal. He is being investigated for alleged fraud worth €1.1 million.
Bucharest Tribunal rejected on Wednesday, 7 October, as without merit, the appeal lodged by Georgescu's lawyers against the seizure instituted by prosecutors of his villa in Mogoșoaia. The computer searches continue on Friday, 9 October.
