Massive cannabis cultivation discovered in Cluj County: four men arrested for 30 days
DIICOT has dismantled a drug trafficking network in Cluj County, with outdoor cannabis cultivation at the border of three municipalities. Four defendants have been remanded in custody by Cluj Tribunal.

Approximately 60 kilograms of green vegetable matter and 4 kilograms of cannabis buds were seized following home searches conducted as part of a DIICOT investigation in Cluj County, reports Gândul. Cluj Tribunal ordered Saturday the remand in custody of four defendants for 30 days, these individuals being investigated for trafficking in risk drugs, trafficking in high-risk drugs and unauthorised drug possession.
According to a DIICOT statement, two of the defendants — aged 41 and 53 respectively — initiated and developed, during the course of 2026, several outdoor cannabis cultivations at the boundary of built-up areas in three municipalities in the county, in secluded areas, not visibly demarcated and covered with dense vegetation. The two commercialised cannabis to consumers in the county, at prices ranging between 350 and 3,000 lei. The 53-year-old defendant also sold ketamine, classified as a risk drug.
The other two suspects, aged 26 and 56, procured, possessed and sold both cannabis and crystalline substances from the high-risk drug category, according to investigations by prosecutors from the organised crime unit.
Full arsenal, including weapons and hallucinogenic substances
The home searches revealed, alongside cannabis products, an extensive inventory: containers with vegetable and liquid substance, fertilisers for cultivation, approximately 170 grams of hallucinogenic mushrooms, fans used for drying plant material, grinders and precision scales.
Law enforcement also seized several weapons: an airsoft pistol, an air rifle equipped with a telescopic sight, six boxes with 4.5 millimetre pellets and a bag with metal pellets. Pyrotechnic articles, sums of money and other evidence items were also seized.
Case for trafficking in risk and high-risk drugs
The case concerns criminal offences of trafficking in risk drugs, trafficking in high-risk drugs and possession of drugs for personal use, without authorisation. The four defendants remain in remand custody for 30 days, according to Cluj Tribunal's decision communicated Saturday, informs News.ro.
