Judges at Bucharest Court of Appeal postponed until the beginning of next week the issuing of a final ruling. They heard the appeal lodged by DIICOT prosecutors against the solution of the Capital District Court, which had opted for the measure of judicial supervision instead of preventive arrest, according to radiobrasovfm.ro.
The case targets the founder of care centres, Viorel Pașca, together with his wife, the couple's three children and the head of the respective units. The specialised prosecution suspects them of having kept elderly persons and other vulnerable individuals in conditions of slavery in order to appropriate their income — pensions, allowances and sums received as donations. Another serious accusation concerns the burial of over four hundred deceased persons on land owned by the family, with the appropriation of death allowances.
The main representative of the group, Viorel Pașca, completely denies the facts he is accused of.
The investigation became known to the general public following the transfer of beneficiaries from the Bihor county asylum Dumbrava to a location in Brașov.
