DIICOT seeks preventive arrest in illegal shelters case in Bihor
The Prosecution attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice – Directorate for Investigation of Organised Crime and Terrorism Offences will challenge the decision of Bucharest magistrates who imposed the measure of judicial supervision for administrator Viorel Pașca, his relatives, and for Delia Păcală, who ran the unauthorised care units in Bihor county.
All those targeted are being investigated for human trafficking, an offence committed repeatedly. The prosecutors initially formulated a proposal to remand the accused in custody for one month, but judges at the Tribunal of the Capital rejected the request, opting for a milder measure.
DIICOT's appeal will be examined by the Court of Appeal Bucharest.
Before the court, the principal suspect defended his activity, arguing that he had brought benefit to the community and to the people housed in the respective centres. He acknowledged possible unintentional mistakes and a certain degree of naivety, concluding that, if his actions had breached legislation, the result had been the saving of some people.
