On Tuesday morning, prosecutors from DIICOT coordinated simultaneous raids in six counties across the country in a case targeting the introduction and illegal trafficking of banned substances at cross-border level. The group targeted is composed of both Romanians and Serbian nationals and is alleged to have operated since 2024, according to romania-actualitati.ro.
Throughout the investigation, law enforcement has succeeded in seizing over three million untaxed cigarettes. The investigators claim that the organisation diversified its activity with the onset of last autumn, when it is alleged to have begun sending impressive quantities of particularly dangerous psychoactive substances, procured from Serbia, to Nordic countries, especially Finland.
Thanks to information sharing with Romanian partners, Finnish police succeeded in intercepting nearly 150,000 tablets containing such drugs. The suspects are currently being questioned at DIICOT's central headquarters in the capital.
