Prosecutors from the National Anticorruption Directorate are conducting 96 searches on Monday across six counties in north-western Romania, targeting border police officers and customs workers suspected of corruption, reports ProTV News.

The case focuses on employees of the Halmeu Border Crossing Point in Satu Mare county. According to a DNA statement, they are suspected of having received various sums of money in connection with the performance of their service duties during the period 2025–2026.

"Prosecutors within the DNA - Oradea Territorial Service are conducting an investigation in a criminal case concerning suspicions of corruption offences committed by border police officers and customs workers within border structures," DNA stated in a press release.

The searches cover 96 locations situated in Satu Mare, Bihor, Sălaj, Maramureș, Cluj and Mureș counties, and are targeting the headquarters of two public institutions as well as the residences of several individuals.

The operation involves, alongside prosecutors, staff from the General Anticorruption Directorate, the Bihor County Gendarmerie Inspectorate, the Cluj-Napoca Mobile Gendarmerie Group and the Police Inspectorates of Bihor and Cluj counties.
