Miruță on case involving head of Army: decision to be made after serious analysis
Interim Defence Minister Radu Miruță announced that he informed President Nicușor Dan about the DNA case in which General Gheorghiță Vlad, head of the Defence Staff, is being investigated, according to G4Media.
"We have taken note of what happened, and we will see in the coming period what is the best decision for the Romanian Army," Miruță said, speaking from NATO headquarters in Belgium. "I also informed President Nicușor Dan about this situation."
The minister specified that the decision regarding the future of the two high-ranking military officials will be announced in the coming days. "We will decide what happens with the two most important people in the Army, in the coming days, after serious analysis," he added, in an intervention on TVR.
General Gheorghiță Vlad was questioned on Tuesday morning at the National Anti-Corruption Directorate, in a case handled by military anti-corruption prosecutors. According to a statement from the Prosecutor's Office, the head of the Army has the status of suspect and is accused of complicity in usurpation of office.
The accusation concerns the allegation that he determined an increase in budget-financed places at the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport in favour of another general's daughter, thereby facilitating her automatic employment in the Army.
"This morning he was called to the Prosecutor's Office. I saw it myself, at this moment, the Prosecutor's Office statement. Depending on the discussions we will have in the coming period, we will see what is the best decision for the Romanian Army," Miruță also said.
