A man from Mureș has received the heaviest sentence possible behind bars, with the sentence becoming final upon expiration of the appeal period, according to G4Media.ro.

The magistrates sentenced Emil Gânj to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of his partner. To divert attention, the accused set fire to the victim's body.

Mureș Court examined the case in the absence of the accused. The court noted the man's criminal record, revoked a previous conditional release and ordered the consolidation of all sentences.

The condemned man has been evading sentence execution for nearly 12 months, managing to hide from law enforcement.
