Judges at the Bucharest Court of Appeal rejected prosecutors' request for preventive detention and annulled judicial supervision for five members of the Pașca family, included in a human trafficking case.

Five members of the Pașca family, including the administrator of care centres in Bihor, are no longer under judicial supervision. The superior court in Bucharest definitively rejected the request of anticorruption prosecutors and lifted all restrictions imposed on the defendants.
Investigators claim that the group gathered hundreds of individuals with psychological disabilities, taken from medical units and social services in various areas of the country. These individuals were moved to buildings in rural localities with the promise that they would receive medical care and specialised support.
In reality, according to the indictment, the people were held in conditions of forced dependence. Their income — including disability allowances and voluntary contributions — was seized by the five defendants. The damage calculated by law enforcement exceeds 13 million lei.
The judge who first analysed the case acknowledged that the centres in Bihor did not have legal operating documents, but nonetheless found that the accommodation facilities were maintained in an acceptable sanitary condition, as reported by RRA correspondent Diana Surdu.
