Inspectors from the National Veterinary Sanitary Authority found a suspicious situation at a farm in Cluj County: animals that were alive and well in the barn appeared in digital records as having been destroyed in an outbreak in Tulcea. The leadership of the institution decided to notify the criminal investigation authorities and to apply the most severe penalties provided for by law.
According to News.ro, the discrepancies came to light during routine inspections. The national electronic platform (SNIIA) appears to have been altered so that the actual condition of the livestock did not match that in the database. This practice could conceal the illegal sale of meat without valid sanitary documents.
ANSVSA officials announced that inspection measures will be expanded to other counties to prevent such schemes. Those found guilty risk criminal charges for falsification of records and violation of food safety regulations.
Manipulation of the traceability register undermines the entire monitoring chain for products of animal origin, exposing consumers to public health risks.
