Former murder convict released early kills again and disappears
On 8 July 2024, Anda Ghiurco, aged 23, was killed in her home in the village of Miheșu de Câmpie, Mureș county. His former partner was murdered by Emil Gânj, who then set fire to the dwelling. After committing the crime, the individual disappeared and has not been located since.
Gânj was not facing his first murder conviction. He had previously been imprisoned for a crime, but left the penitentiary five years earlier than his sentence stipulated. His victim had filed a criminal complaint against him after being kidnapped and abused.
The authorities searched for him for several months across different regions of the country and placed him on the international wanted list. The criminal proceedings continued in his absence, and a month ago magistrates issued the final sentence: life imprisonment.
The relatives of the murdered young woman lived in fear of the aggressor's return. Anda's mother and child were forced to relocate from the locality and are under special witness protection.
The threats continued even after the main suspect's flight. The victim's aunt received threats from the fugitive's brother, Iacob Gânj, who was placed under electronic surveillance. Another sister of his also reported the same matter to police.
Law enforcement maintains a permanent patrol in the village of Miheșu de Câmpie.
