Former Energy Holding executives acquitted for embezzlement
The Bucharest Court of Appeal upheld the acquittal of Costin Răducu Alexandrescu and Lavinia Țicu, former directors of Energy Holding, but left the civil case open for recovery of damages exceeding 11 million euros.
Former Energy Holding executives acquitted for embezzlement
Judges at the Bucharest Court of Appeal confirmed, on 30 June 2026, the acquittal sentence handed down by the Bucharest Tribunal for two former leaders of Energy Holding.
Costin Răducu Alexandrescu, the company's former administrator, and Lavinia Țicu, former head of the economic department, were declared not guilty of the charge of embezzlement. The judges rejected appeals filed by prosecutors and by Transelectrica, the injured party in the case.
Nevertheless, the civil aspect has not been settled. The court decided to maintain the protective sequestration imposed on the two defendants and left the damages action unresolved. Thus, the dispute regarding recovery of damages valued at more than 11 million euros continues.
The two were charged in 2021. According to the indictment, in the period August 2009 – April 2010, they allegedly transferred approximately 59.5 million lei to another company, through seven bank payments, with no consideration given. Through this manoeuvre, they allegedly damaged the company they managed, namely its creditors.
The Tax Authority and other creditors, both natural and legal persons, participated in the trial as injured parties, with the aim of recovering their claims. Energy Holding, formerly owned by businessman Bogdan Buzăianu, entered insolvency proceedings in May 2017 after the agreement with Hidroelectrica was terminated.
