Bucharest Tribunal has admitted the opening of substantive proceedings in the case in which the former PSD parliamentarian is accused of offering one million euros to influence contracts at Romtehnica.

Judges at Bucharest Tribunal ruled on Friday that the corruption case involving former senator Marius Ovidiu Isăilă can proceed to the substantive phase. The magistrates rejected the defendant's objections, who claimed that evidence had been gathered in breach of procedures. The decision is not final and may be challenged within three days.
DNA investigators accuse Isăilă of purchase of influence. According to the bill of indictment, he allegedly attempted to offer the Defence Minister of that time, Ionuț Moșteanu, the sum of one million euros. The intermediary in the alleged transaction was said to be Octavian Berceanu, former head of the Environmental Guard.
The purpose of the alleged bribe was to pressure Romtehnica, a company in which the Romanian state holds all shares, to sign contracts with a private company. The plan allegedly aimed at bringing in projectiles from Kazakhstan, which were to be disassembled and reassembled in an indigenous military facility, so that they could subsequently be sold on the community circuit, with Ukraine as the final destination.
From intercepted communications made public by prosecutors, it emerges that Isăilă allegedly spoke about a similar scheme carried out in Albania, where, according to his statements, local officials had rapidly accumulated enormous fortunes. He allegedly also highlighted the sums made available by Brussels for rearmament, mentioning 30 billion euros.
The case was registered at court at the end of November. The ruling in the preliminary chamber was postponed 13 times before judges made a final ruling on the lawfulness of the evidence.
