Theft of 12 tonnes of diesel on Brașov-Simeria railway site: ten defendants admitted guilt
Ten people have concluded guilt-admission agreements in the case of diesel thefts from the Brașov-Simeria railway site, with damages exceeding 95,000 lei.

Prosecutors from the Prosecutor's Office attached to Brașov Court have finalised the case concerning diesel thefts from the Brașov-Simeria railway site, according to News.ro. Ten defendants have signed guilt-admission agreements, accepting suspended sentences and paying approximately 80 per cent of the total damages.
The offences took place between October 2025 and March 2026, in the area of the villages Ormeniș and Racoș. Eight of the ten defendants were workers on the site, whilst another 17 suspects were investigated for supporting the group — either facilitating the thefts or purchasing fuel below market price.
According to the agreements concluded, the sentences imposed range from one year and one month to two years and ten months of imprisonment with suspension, with each defendant also required to perform one hundred days of community service. The agreements are to be confirmed by a court decision.
Investigators established that the group stole over 12 tonnes of fuel from the tanks of machinery operating on the railway corridor where work is being carried out to enable trains to circulate at speeds of 160 km/h. Total damages were estimated at 95,062 lei.
The method used was elaborate: the machinery from which diesel was to be stolen was left running at idle speed for hours on end — a period during which fuel consumption was reduced — yet employees recorded that interval in the victim company's records as work time. "In practice, the quantity of diesel stolen was determined mathematically and represented the difference between the two types of consumption", prosecutors stated.
The criminal group also benefited from internal protection. The head of the security company's guards was himself a member of the network and used his influence over subordinates to prevent those stealing the fuel from being reported. "During thefts committed by some members, other members provided them with physical protection, with security guards also implicated who had responsibility for preventing these offences", prosecutors established.
During the investigation, the defendants restituted approximately 80 per cent of the established damages.
