Georgescu remains in preventive arrest pending decision from Bucharest Court of Appeal
Călin Georgescu explained on Facebook that the Bucharest Court approved house arrest, but prosecutors' appeal keeps preventive arrest in force.

Georgescu in preventive arrest pending resolution of appeal at Court of Appeal
Former presidential election candidate Călin Georgescu posted a message on Tuesday on his Facebook page clarifying the legal status of his situation, according to Gândul. The Bucharest Court admitted on 13 October 2026 the request to replace preventive arrest with house arrest — however, the decision is not final.
"On Tuesday, 13 October 2026, the judge for rights and freedoms at the Bucharest Court admitted the request to replace the measure of preventive arrest with the measure of house arrest. This ruling is not final. The law provides for a period of 48 hours in which it can be challenged by the prosecutor, and on Thursday, 15 October, the 48 hours have elapsed," Georgescu wrote.
The appeal has already been filed by prosecutors. The next procedural step consists of the drafting of a reasoned ruling by the judge for rights and freedoms at the Bucharest Court, after which the file will be transmitted to the Bucharest Court of Appeal. This court will issue the final ruling.
"The drafting of the reasoned ruling by the judge for rights and freedoms at the Bucharest Court follows, and subsequently the file will be forwarded to the Bucharest Court of Appeal. This is the court that will resolve the appeal and issue a final ruling. Until then, the measure of preventive arrest remains in force," Georgescu stated, ending his message with thanks addressed to supporters.
Pending judgement of the appeal, Georgescu remains in Central Prison. The Bucharest Court had initially annulled the preventive arrest warrant issued by the Bucharest Court of Appeal and admitted the defence's request, although the court had previously ruled on investigation under judicial supervision.
Georgescu had been placed in preventive arrest on 29 September for 30 days in a DIICOT file in which he is accused of forming an organised criminal group and fraud with extremely serious consequences in continuous form. The investigation was launched following a complaint by businessman Răzvan Leu from Buzău, who claims he lost 1.1 million euros after being promised the acquisition of external funding of 6 million euros.
