Ilie Gherlan "White Fang" detained for drug trafficking in Maramureș; firearms and ammunition found at home
Three people, including Ilie Gherlan known as "White Fang", have been detained by DIICOT Maramureș in a high-risk drug trafficking case. Two lethal firearms and over 200 cartridges were found at the home of the 47-year-old suspect.

Ilie Gherlan, known in the Borșa area by the nickname "White Fang", is among three people detained in a high-risk drug trafficking case, adevarul.ro reports. The other two suspects are aged 17 and 19. The investigation was conducted by police and prosecutors from DIICOT Maramureș.
According to local press cited by adevarul.ro, Gherlan was reportedly arrested by police at a timber yard, where he allegedly attempted to hide. In recent years, he was allegedly involved in several violent incidents that occurred in the city of Borșa.
Drugs from 2024 to 2026, multiple substances
According to the Romanian Police, during the period 2024–2026, the three suspects allegedly acquired, possessed, made available and sold high-risk drugs. The substances identified include crystalline compounds — 2CMC and 3CMC — as well as plant material impregnated with MDMB-4en-PINACA. The 47-year-old man allegedly also sold products likely to have psychoactive effects, namely 4BMC.
Six home searches on 23 September
During 23 September, police carried out six home searches. Envelopes and containers with crystallised, plant and liquid substances — undergoing expert analysis — were seized, along with precision scales, items bearing traces of substance, and sums of money in lei and euros.
At the home of the 47-year-old suspect, two lethal firearms were discovered, two magazines each containing 15 cartridges of 9mm calibre, one magazine with 13 cartridges and another 175 cartridges of the same calibre, all held illegally.
Proposal for 30-day preventive arrest
The three were detained on 24 September. DIICOT prosecutors subsequently referred the matter to Maramureș Court with a proposal for 30-day preventive arrest. The persons under investigation benefit from the presumption of innocence and all procedural rights and guarantees.
