Influencer Makaveli summoned again to DNA over candidacy for Bucharest Mayor
Content creator Virgil Alexandru Zidaru, alias Makaveli, was questioned on Thursday by anti-corruption prosecutors in a case initiated by a complaint he himself filed. The matter concerns the circumstances under which he withdrew from the race for the position of mayor of Bucharest, organised in December of last year.
Upon arriving at the institution's headquarters, Zidaru stated that he had come to present investigators with evidence related to the constraints to which he claimed to have been subjected. According to his account, two men allegedly resorted to intimidation and psychological pressure to convince him to abandon the competition. He also alleged that one of these men had forged his signature, subsequently attempting to use it to his detriment.
Makaveli explained that he had opted for voluntary disclosure at the time, wishing for all aspects to be transparent. Hearings took place on the preceding day as well, and on Thursday he brought additional information to the investigation.
Initially, Zidaru had announced his intention to run for the leadership of the capital's administration, but subsequently withdrew in favour of Anca Alexandrescu. His decision was justified at the time by the argument of the need to consolidate political forces, stating that he could have garnered 7% of voters' preferences.
Prosecutors have already ordered the freezing of his assets, estimating that the damage sustained is of significant magnitude.
