On Friday, magistrates from the Bucharest Prosecutor's Office decided that Alexandru Zidaru, better known on the internet under the name Makaveli, should be supervised for two months as part of a criminal investigation. The young man is suspected of not declaring earnings obtained from digital platforms.

According to the indictment, in the period 2021–2024, Zidaru reportedly received approximately 3.3 million lei from activity conducted in the virtual environment. However, investigators claim, he did not register these amounts with the tax authority and did not file the mandatory forms for taxation. The unpaid difference owed to the state budget amounts to nearly 235,000 lei, money which should cover income tax, pension contributions and health insurance contributions.

Investigators also state that the vlogger did not have an active tax registration code. The money allegedly passed through the accounts of three other individuals so as not to be tracked by authorities, after which it allegedly reached him.

At the conclusion of the hearings, Zidaru admitted that he had not paid taxes on gifts received on TikTok and promised that he would cover the amounts owed. He mentioned that he is the sole defendant and that he will not challenge the court's decision.

Authorities have seized through an order a house and two plots of land belonging to him, estimated at approximately 57,000 euros.
