Timiș police have confirmed that two criminal cases and protection orders exist against local PSD leader Răzvan Popeți, who is accused of hitting and threatening a businessman of German origin and of taking 50 vehicles from him.

The Timiș county police department issued a statement in which it officially acknowledges that investigations have been opened against the head of the local PSD organisation, Răzvan Popeți. He is suspected of using physical violence against a German investor and of stealing a fleet of 50 vehicles belonging to the businessman. The details were initially revealed by the publication Snoop, and the law enforcement institution responded to journalists' request, according to Romania Liberă.
According to the document sent by IPJ Timiș, law enforcement officers drew up two criminal cases for acts that could constitute assault, threats and harassment. Provisional protective measures were also issued, validated by a prosecutor. Judges subsequently issued two final rulings in this regard: the first, with a duration of four months, and the second, valid for eight months, the latter being currently active.
Police representatives mention that, to date, no violations of the protection measure still in force have been recorded. The proposal to issue these measures came from the Office of the Prosecutor attached to the Timișoara Court.
In addition to the violence-related offences, the economic crime prevention structure is also investigating possible tax fraud, under the supervision of a prosecutor from the Tribunal Prosecutor's Office in Timiș.
The journalistic investigation revealed that, in 2023, Popeți became co-administrator of a car rental company alongside the German citizen. For two years, the businessman has been unsuccessfully attempting to recover the vehicles, accusing Romanian institutions of procrastination. "The police protected the thieves," the foreign investor said, according to the source mentioned.
