MMA fighter Tolea Ciumac was detained by Bucharest police following a brawl with another man that took place outside a venue in the Old Town area of the capital, according to Cotidianul.ro.
The Bucharest Police announced on Sunday that officers from Police Section 27 initiated action ex officio on 12 September 2026 after video footage of the incident emerged in public. "From preliminary investigations it was established that, initially, the two men were engaged in mutual aggression, with the conflict escalating further, at which point one of them continued to strike the other repeatedly," the institution stated in a press release.
Both men were identified and brought to Police Section 27 headquarters for questioning. The injured party declared that he did not wish to file a complaint.
The suspect was detained for 24 hours on charges of assault and other violence, and disturbing public order and peace, and is to be presented to magistrates with a legal recommendation. Judicial sources confirmed that the detained man is Tolea Ciumac.
The irony of the situation lies in the fact that, earlier that same evening, Ciumac was at a bar in Old Town with his scheduled opponent on 30 October — known as "Spartanu" — and the two filmed a clip in which they joked about their upcoming confrontation. "Spartanu came to beat me up! He came to beat me up, what should I do?", Ciumac said in the recording, according to Fanatik. The two had shots in front of them and were laughing as they made the video.
