Judges at the Bucharest Court of Appeal will decide on Monday on the prosecutors' request from DIICOT to place Viorel Pașca in preventive arrest, together with four other members of his family. They are being investigated for activities carried out in unauthorised care homes in Bihor county, according to information published by romania-actualitati.ro.

The Bucharest Tribunal previously decided that the five defendants should be investigated in liberty, but under court supervision through the measure of judicial control. The prosecutors contested this decision, requesting a more severe measure. The defence lawyers, however, argued for maintaining the current legal situation, without deprivation of liberty.

The investigation focuses on care centres for elderly persons operated without authorisation in Bihor, where the elderly were housed in unsuitable conditions. The authorities are analysing how these units functioned and possible breaches of the law relating to the treatment applied to residents.
