A chief commissioner from Buzău Police Headquarters has been arrested on remand by Bucharest magistrates. DNA prosecutors allege he received over 77,000 lei to facilitate the filing of a complaint that would have reduced the sentence of a convicted person.

Magistrates of the Bucharest Tribunal have issued a remand arrest warrant for 30 days against a department head from Buzău police. The man is being investigated by DNA for bribery.

According to prosecutors, in the period between November 2025 and June 2026, the police officer negotiated with two people, witnesses in a criminal case, for a sum of 15,000 euros. Subsequently, he agreed to receive 77,500 lei, money which he collected in several instalments.
In exchange for this sum, the officer promised he would help one of the two witnesses file a complaint with the authorities in Mizil and the county police inspectorate. The witness in question had already been definitively sentenced to a custodial sentence in another case, and the complaint was supposed to result in a reduction of his sentence at the appeal stage.
The plan devised by the police officer involved identifying a person who was to be accused of an offence, so that the report would be considered legally valid.
The catch occurred on Saturday, when the officer received a new instalment of 7,500 lei. Immediately afterwards, he went to a currency exchange and converted the money into sterling. DNA prosecutors, assisted by colleagues from the General Anti-Corruption Directorate, detained him on the spot.
At present, the suspect is in remand detention, and the investigation is continuing.
