A 40-year-old man with known previous criminal convictions was detained by Bucharest prosecutors after he killed another man following a fight on a street in Sector 2.

The incident occurred on Thursday evening, around 6:00 p.m. According to investigators, the two men argued spontaneously, and the attacker repeatedly struck the victim with his fists and feet to the head, face and torso.

A preliminary forensic medical examination shows that the 41-year-old man died in less than 60 minutes following the violence. Death was caused by the stopping of cardiac and respiratory functions, caused by massive abdominal bleeding, resulting from a ruptured spleen and thoracic trauma with fractured ribs.

Prosecutors requested that the judge of rights and freedoms order the pre-trial arrest of the defendant for 30 days. The investigation is being conducted by the Bucharest Tribunal Prosecutor's Office, with the support of the Homicide Service within the Capital Police.
