Waste from vehicle dismantling buried illegally near a grain storage facility in Argeș

Four men have been detained after police from the Argeș Weapons, Explosives and Dangerous Substances Service conducted five searches in a criminal case concerning illegal waste management, according to G4Media, citing Agerpres.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Argeș County Police Inspectorate (IPJ), the investigation was conducted under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor's Office attached to Costești Court, with support from specialists from the National Environmental Guard.

The investigation established that in August, a 46-year-old man from Argeș, administrator of a company engaged in "collection of hazardous and non-hazardous waste", allegedly coordinated the illegal disposal, outside authorised spaces, of mixed waste originating from vehicle dismantling and electrical equipment.

The waste was loaded by a 55-year-old man from Argeș into a lorry and transported, over several successive days, by a 35-year-old man from Teleorman County. The destination was the workplace of an agricultural company specialising in grain cultivation, with the consent of its administrator, a 40-year-old man from Argeș.

The investigation showed that the waste was buried in a large pit located behind a grain storage facility, using equipment belonging to the second company.

Three of the searches targeted the headquarters and workplaces of the companies involved, whilst two took place at the homes of private individuals. All four persons were brought in for questioning on the basis of summons issued during the investigation.

"An order was issued to detain for 24 hours, on the basis of an ordinance, three men aged 40, 46 and 55, all from Argeș County, as well as a 35-year-old man from Teleorman County", the IPJ Argeș statement specifies.

The four will be presented to the Public Prosecutor's Office attached to Costești Court with recommendations for preventive measures. The investigation continues under the supervision of the investigating prosecutor to establish all the circumstances in which the acts were committed.
