Massive searches in 5 counties in baccalaureate fraud case
On Friday, 3 July 2026, a large-scale operation was launched in five counties across the country. Law enforcement officials carried out 47 searches at homes located in Alba, Arad, Bihor, Cluj and Sibiu. The objective is to gather evidence in a case concerning the leaking of confidential information used to manipulate the baccalaureate examination papers.
The investigation is coordinated by prosecutors from the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Alba County Court. They announced that the searches are being carried out at the homes of individuals with no particular function in the investigation, on the basis of warrants approved by judges.
The police forces involved come from several structures. Police officers from the Economic Crime Investigation Service within the Alba County Police Directorate are leading the operation, assisted by colleagues from criminal investigation services, public order, weapons and dangerous substances, as well as special operations. Units from Arad, Hunedoara, Bihor, Cluj and Sibiu counties are participating from other counties. Gendarmes from Alba and Cluj are providing additional support.
Investigators are attempting to establish how exam papers came into the possession of certain individuals before the actual taking of the tests and who facilitated this.
