A man under investigation for high-risk drug trafficking has been detained in flagrante delicto by border police officers in Sighetu Marmației. Maramureș Court has ordered his remand in custody for 30 days.

Recidivist caught with high-risk drugs in Maramureș, sent into remand custody

Border police officers from the Sighetu Marmației Territorial Inspectorate have detained in flagrante delicto a 34-year-old man, a recidivist, suspected of high-risk drug trafficking, according to politiadefrontiera.ro. The operation was conducted under the coordination of prosecutors from DIICOT – Maramureș Territorial Office.

During 2026, the accused procured, possessed and sold crystalline substance 3-CMC in Maramureș county, using the "dead drop" method. Each transaction was carried out in exchange for the sum of 1,000 lei.

On the evening of 3 June 2026, a border police team caught him whilst he was in possession of and transporting approximately 110 grammes of high-risk drug intended for sale. During the criminal investigation, approximately 40 doses previously sold by the same individual had already been seized.

On 4 June 2026, DIICOT prosecutors ordered the accused's detention, and the judge for rights and liberties at Maramureș Court issued a remand custody warrant for 30 days.

The judicial activities were carried out together with officers from the Service for Combating Organised Crime Maramureș.

The persons under investigation benefit, throughout the entire criminal proceedings, from the rights and procedural guarantees provided for in the Code of Criminal Procedure, including the presumption of innocence.
