On the night of 9 July, a woman was beaten by her common-law husband in an apartment in Sfântu Gheorghe. The call to emergency services came around 01:50, and public order teams intervened promptly.
At the scene, law enforcement officers found that the victim bore visible signs of blows to the face. The assault allegedly occurred in the context of a dispute that erupted unexpectedly, worsened by alcohol consumption. The woman refused medical assistance.
The suspect was no longer in the dwelling when police arrived. A search was organised, and the man was found and taken to the police station for questioning.
Under the supervision of the prosecutor from the Prosecution Office attached to Sfântu Gheorghe District Court, a 24-hour detention order was issued. The reason: the individual had criminal antecedents for acts committed with violence and had just finished serving a prison sentence.
On 10 July 2026, the judge of rights and freedoms reviewed the proposal and issued a remand in custody warrant for one month. The case remains under investigation by the prosecutor, with the offence of domestic violence being examined.
