Drug network dismantled by Cluj prosecutors: eight suspects arrested

A group specialising in the sale of narcotics has been dismantled by investigators. Eight people, including five men and three women aged between 23 and 53, were arrested at the end of June 2026 by prosecutors from the Directorate for Investigating Organised Crime and Terrorism – Cluj Bureau. They are suspected of forming a criminal group, distributing high-risk drugs and illegal operations with psychoactive substances, according to Radio România.

The core of the organisation was formed in 2025 by six of the defendants, with the aim of making financial gains from the sale of banned substances. A woman held the position of coordinator, approving transactions and verifying the degree of client trustworthiness. She set the payment terms, allowing some to pay later or offer various items in compensation – ranging from clothing and toiletries to mobile phones and wood-cutting machinery.

Distribution was ensured by subordinates who delivered drugs such as 2CMC, 3CMC, 4CMC, 4BMC and NEP to consumers in Huedin and surrounding villages. One separate participant was responsible for supplying substances, which he then passed on to sellers.

During the investigation, officers seized packages containing high-risk drugs and psychoactive substances. Following raids, they also recovered a precision scale, objects contaminated with substance traces, cash in national and foreign currency, as well as other evidence materials.

The judge for rights and freedoms at the Cluj Tribunal decided on deprivation of liberty for five of the accused, house arrest for two others, whilst the final member of the group is under judicial supervision.
