Human trafficking network dismantled in Caraș-Severin

DIICOT dismantled a human trafficking network operating in Caraș-Severin county, announces Jurnalul.ro. Investigators established that, in August 2026 alone, over 60 citizens from Egypt, Pakistan, Bangladesh, India and Ghana were illegally brought into Romanian territory.

Six search warrants were executed at the residences of six suspects aged between 25 and 50. These individuals allegedly held well-defined roles within the criminal organisation and allegedly collected substantial sums of money from this activity.

"The actions involved carrying out successive, coordinated transports, through which migrants were collected from locations indicated by the organisers, moved to boarding points and hidden among cargo transported by articulated lorries," DIICOT specified in a statement.

The network also had its own route surveillance system: participants monitored movements and transmitted information about the presence of police crews, whilst also ensuring payment of persons involved in the transports.

The migrants' final destinations were Austria and Germany. Two members of the gang have already been sentenced to imprisonment for human trafficking on German territory, according to the same sources.
