Moldovan driver sought by helicopter in Mehedinți forest after fleeing police
A 26-year-old man from the Republic of Moldova, suspected of stealing a car from Bulgaria, fled from police officers and hid in a forest in Mehedinți county.

A 26-year-old man from the Republic of Moldova was being searched for on Saturday evening, 5 September, by police officers from several counties, after he allegedly refused to stop at officers' signals and took refuge in a forest near the locality of Strehaia, Mehedinți county. According to Digi24, a helicopter from the air force is also participating in the search operation.
According to initial information, the man allegedly stole a vehicle from Bulgaria and managed to pass undetected through all the filters of the neighbouring country's authorities. He entered Romania through the border crossing point at Calafat, Dolj county.
When he reached Mehedinți county, in the area of the locality Strehaia, police officers attempted to stop him. The driver ignored the signals and abandoned the vehicle near a forest, into which he immediately went on foot.
Police officers from Mehedinți, Gorj, Dolj and Caraș-Severin counties were mobilised for the search operation. Digi24 journalist Elena Alexandru reported that the man had been in the forest since the previous evening, without having been located by the time the information was published.
The helicopter used in the mission had not led to the identification of the fugitive by that point, and he had not been found by Sunday morning either.
