Driver tests positive for ketamine, removed from car by three officers on DJ 152A
A man under the influence of ketamine was stopped on Friday, 18 September, on DJ 152A, in Mureș County, after several drivers alerted police that the vehicle was being driven erratically, according to ziare.com.
When getting out of the car, the man could not stand on his feet without help from the police officers. A video recording, filmed from inside another vehicle and published online by the Europol Trade Union, captures the moment when three officers support the driver to prevent him from collapsing on the road.
"Look how drunk he is! Incredible! He can't stand on his feet. I can't believe this! At this hour these guys are driving around like this on the streets, they could barely get him out, three police officers," says the woman who filmed the scene.
Alcohol tests ruled out — result indicated ketamine
Police officers from the Public Order Bureau and those from the Traffic Bureau of Târgu-Mureș Municipal Police arrived urgently at the scene. Alcohol tests came back negative, but the drug-test device indicated a positive result for ketamine.
"It was not a matter of alcohol, as you might have expected, but of drugs," representatives of the Europol Trade Union stated in the statement accompanying the recording.
DJ 152A is, according to police officers cited by the union, an intensely used road, including by public transport vehicles.
Criminal case opened
Following the findings, police officers opened a criminal case for driving a vehicle on public roads under the influence of narcotic substances.
The Europol Trade Union sent a message to road users: "If you observe in traffic a driver who is driving erratically and is putting the lives of others in danger, do not hesitate to immediately alert the police. A timely report can mean the difference between a simple traffic check and an avoided tragedy."
The union members expressed "full appreciation for those who chose not to remain indifferent" in this case, emphasising that the intervention was possible solely thanks to reports from other drivers.
