The National Sanitary Veterinary Authority and for Food Safety (ANSVSA) has identified a possible case of fraud in the animal traceability system. Inspectors found that 75 sheep declared as slaughtered in Tulcea County were in fact sold and transported to other counties in the country.
The case was discovered following checks carried out by veterinary sanitary authorities. The animals were listed as deceased in official documents, but in reality had been traded to buyers from other areas.
The investigation concerns how these sheep were registered as dead in the national traceability system, despite continuing to exist. Authorities are now investigating the exact circumstances and those responsible for this discrepancy.
The animal traceability system was implemented to ensure comprehensive monitoring of the movement of animals and products of animal origin, from farm to consumer. Any attempt to manipulate data from this system undermines food safety and veterinary-sanitary control.
ANSVSA continues its investigation to establish the full chain of events and to take the necessary legal measures.
