18-year-old from Biharia arrested for 30 days over six burglaries in Oradea
Balog Karoly-Zoltan-Janos was detained on 4 June following thefts from shops, bars and vehicles. Total damages exceed 23,000 lei.

Six burglaries in less than two weeks, investigated by Oradea Police
An 18-year-old from Biharia commune has been placed under preventative arrest for 30 days by Oradea Court, after police identified him as the perpetrator of a series of thefts committed in the municipality. According to ebihoreanul.ro, the defendant — identified as Balog Karoly-Zoltan-Janos — is being investigated for six counts of aggravated theft in continuous form, targeting a butcher's shop, a veterinary practice, a neighbourhood bar, a food shop and two vehicles.
The detention took place on Thursday, 4 June, carried out by officers of the Property Crime Prevention Bureau of Oradea Municipality Police.
First incident: Distinct butcher's shop, night of 23 to 24 May
The first offence identified by investigators occurred on the night of 23 to 24 May. The young man allegedly entered by climbing and breaking in to the Distinct butcher's shop on Arany János Street, from where he allegedly stole 550 lei from a till drawer, along with food items. Total damages in this case were estimated at approximately 3,050 lei.
On 28 May, at around 2.20 a.m., the same man allegedly attempted to break into a veterinary practice on Ștefan cel Mare Street, by breaking a basement window, but was spotted by a resident of the building and fled. Damages, estimated at around 1,000 lei, were not recovered.
Bar, food shop and vehicles targeted in early June
On the night of 1 to 2 June, at around 5.50 a.m., Balog allegedly entered by breaking in to a neighbourhood bar on Mehedinți Street, from where he allegedly stole a bicycle. Damages were estimated at 2,000 lei.
Also on 2 June, between 5.15 and 5.24 a.m., he allegedly broke into a food shop on Italiană Street, from where he allegedly stole 4,223 lei in takings and several packets and cartons of cigarettes. Damages in this case amount to 13,223 lei and were partially recovered.
During the same period, between 4.00 and 9.30 a.m. on 2 June, the young man allegedly smashed the side window of a vehicle parked on Italiană Street, stealing a mobile phone and other goods from inside. Estimated damages: 2,000 lei, partially recovered. A second vehicle, parked on Mehedinți Street, was allegedly targeted on the night of 1 to 2 June — a bank card was allegedly stolen from it, with damages estimated at 2,000 lei, partially recovered.
Home search and evidence seized
On 4 June, police executed a home search warrant at the young man's residence. "Several material means of evidence and goods allegedly originating from the offences committed were identified and seized," Bihor Police said in an official statement.
The following day, on 5 June, Balog Karoly-Zoltan-Janos was presented to the Prosecutor's Office at Oradea Court. The case prosecutor requested preventative arrest, a request granted by the court. Oradea Court rejected the defendant's request to be placed under judicial supervision and ordered arrest for 30 days, for the period 5 June – 4 July 2026.
Officers of the Property Crime Prevention Bureau continue investigations under the supervision of a prosecutor from the Prosecutor's Office at Oradea Court, with a view to fully documenting the criminal activity and recovering total damages.
