Young woman and elderly grandfather seriously injured in Cluj-Napoca, attempted murder investigation opened
A 22-year-old woman emerged onto the street covered in blood, while her 77-year-old grandfather was found seriously injured in the head in an apartment. Prosecutors opened a criminal case for attempted murder within the family.
Violent incident in Cluj-Napoca: two victims, investigation for attempted murder
ProTV News reports a serious case that occurred Monday evening in Cluj-Napoca: a 22-year-old woman was found on the street covered in blood, with wounds to her neck, whilst her 77-year-old grandfather lay injured in the head in his apartment. Both victims were transported to hospital in serious condition.
The incident came to light after the young woman came down from the building shouting for help. A neighbour called 112, and an ambulance attended to the girl, who was in a state of shock with multiple injuries on her body.
Police officers were alerted and travelled to the residence from which the young woman had come. "Officers carried out checks at the residence from which she is believed to have left, where they identified a 77-year-old man who also showed signs of violence," said Iulian Timșa, spokesman for the Cluj Police Inspectorate.
The pensioner, a former dental surgeon, had lived alone in the apartment for several years. According to neighbours, his daughter and granddaughter are believed to have recently returned from the United States. A neighbour stated that the man was "a really decent guy" and that he had not noticed any problems in the family.
For the time being, neither of the victims has been able to provide investigators with clarification regarding what occurred. Prosecutors are considering several hypotheses: either a quarrel between the two which escalated, or the involvement of a third person.
The mother of the injured young woman was questioned by investigators. The relatives of the two victims stated that they too are awaiting the first results of the investigation.
A criminal case has been opened in rem for domestic violence, in the form of attempted murder.
