Magistrates at a tribunal in the north-west of the country have decided that a man accused of repeated rape of his child can remain free, under supervision. The decision is final.

The individual, with the initials D.A.I., lives in Curtuișeni commune. Prosecutors accuse him of systematically subjecting the girl to sexual acts between the time she was eight years old and 2024. The children's mother had left the area following her separation from her husband, leaving the girl and her brother in the man's care.

The ordeal came to light when the adolescent, aged 15, fled her home and took shelter at a classmate's house. There she recounted what had happened to her, and the classmate immediately contacted the police.

The man learned he was being investigated and left the national territory, returning only in the spring of this year. Once he returned, he was placed in preventive detention on 7 April. Shortly after that, on 27 April, he was sent before the court for rape in continuous form against a person under the age of majority, as well as for domestic violence.

Despite the fact that he had previously fled, judges at Bihor Tribunal considered the most appropriate measure to be judicial supervision, not deprivation of liberty.
