Drug trafficking in Sector 4: three arrested, crypto payments and "dead drop" method
DIICOT has detained three men aged 22, 23 and 53, suspected of drug trafficking in Bucharest. Searches uncovered cocaine, ecstasy, methamphetamine and MDMA.

Drug network operated through a park in Sector 4, dismantled by DIICOT
Three men were detained on Friday, 9 October 2026, by prosecutors from the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism, after being investigated for trafficking in drugs of risk and high risk in Bucharest, Jurnalul.ro reports. The suspects are aged 22, 23 and 53, with two of them being members of the same family.
Operations through encrypted messaging and payments in cryptocurrency
According to DIICOT, the 22-year-old would have sold drugs in Bucharest starting from 2024, using the "dead drop" method — a technique whereby goods were hidden in a location, and the buyer retrieved them later without direct contact with the seller. The substances sold included cocaine, ketamine, cannabis and NEP, a synthetic drug.
Negotiations with customers took place exclusively through encrypted messaging applications, and payment was made in cryptocurrency. Only after receiving the sum did the seller transmit the exact location where the goods were hidden.
Ketamine placed in a park in Sector 4
In the month of July of this year, the same 22-year-old, together with the second suspect aged 23, would have sold ketamine which they placed in a park in Sector 4 of the Capital, according to information provided by DIICOT.
What investigators found during searches
Prosecutors searched the homes of the three men and seized significant quantities of banned substances:
- 108 ecstasy tablets
- approximately 160 grammes of cocaine
- methamphetamine and MDMA
- over 20 tablets of alprazolam, a sedative sold illegally on the black market
Furthermore, investigators found containers with liquid substance, sums in cash — 16,700 lei, 230 euros and 300 dollars — as well as data storage devices and other evidence materials.
Preventive detention for 30 days
On Saturday, the court ordered the preventive arrest of the three defendants for a period of 30 days. They are being investigated for the commission of the offence of trafficking in drugs of risk and high risk, according to DIICOT.
