International drug trafficking in Vrancea: two arrested, 45 kg of cannabis seized
DIICOT Vrancea has detained four men for drug trafficking from Spain. Two 30-day preventive arrests ordered by Vrancea Court.
Drug trafficking network from Spain dismantled by DIICOT Vrancea
Two men have been placed under preventive arrest, whilst two others have been placed under judicial control, following an operation conducted in Vrancea county targeting international drug trafficking, reports monitoruldevrancea.ro. The operation was led by officers from the Organised Crime Prevention Service in Vrancea, together with prosecutors from the Directorate for the Investigation of Organised Crime and Terrorism – Vrancea Territorial Office.
The case involves investigation of four people aged between 28 and 38 years for international and domestic trafficking of high-risk drugs, as well as for unauthorised possession of high-risk drugs for personal consumption.
Cannabis brought from Spain via courier companies
According to investigators, in March 2026, two of the persons under investigation allegedly travelled to Spain, where they procured approximately 20 kilograms of cannabis, which was subsequently introduced into Romania via a courier company.
In May 2026, the same persons, together with a third person, allegedly travelled again to Spain and purchased approximately 25 kilograms of cannabis, intended for sale on Romanian territory, dispatched to the country also via courier companies.
In both cases, after collection of the drugs from the pick-up points of the international transport company branches, the respective quantities were allegedly stored at the address of one of the accused in Bucharest municipality, for the purpose of sale.
Searches and evidence seized on 28 May 2026
In the course of 28 May 2026, home searches were carried out, during which 13 kilograms of cannabis were discovered and seized, quantities of cocaine and hallucinogenic mushrooms, grinders, precision electronic scales, cigarettes and handcrafted cigarette remnants, instruments for insufflating drugs, containers and packaging bearing traces of substance, sums of money in lei and euros, as well as other evidence.
Vrancea Court orders arrest of two accused
Three of the accused were initially detained and presented to the court with a proposal for preventive arrest. The fourth received the measure of judicial control from DIICOT Vrancea prosecutors.
Vrancea Court partially accepted the Prosecution's proposal and ordered the preventive arrest of two of the accused for a period of 30 days, commencing 29 May 2026 and ending 27 June 2026 inclusive. The two are being investigated for international trafficking of high-risk drugs in continuous form — two material acts —, trafficking of high-risk drugs in continuous form and possession of high-risk drugs for personal consumption.
The proposal for preventive arrest against the third accused was rejected as unfounded. The court instead ordered the measure of judicial control against this person for 60 days, commencing 30 May 2026 at 10:00 and ending 28 July 2026, for international trafficking of high-risk drugs in continuous form and possession of high-risk drugs for personal consumption.
Strict obligations during judicial control
During the period of judicial control, the accused concerned is obliged not to leave Romanian territory without prior authorisation from the criminal investigation authorities or the competent court, and not to communicate with the other co-accused and witnesses in the case.
Supervision of compliance with these obligations has been entrusted to the General Police Directorate of Bucharest Municipality – Criminal Investigation Service – Judicial Surveillance Office, via Bucharest Sector 1 Police.
The accused was released in order to execute the preventive measure of judicial control commencing 30 May 2026 at 10:00, provided that he is not detained or arrested in another matter.
