A 45-year-old man, a Ukrainian citizen, was identified by law enforcement while attempting to cross Romania's border into Bulgaria, according to G4Media.ro.
The incident occurred on 10 June 2026 in the area of the Calafat-Vidin bridge. Border police conducted a BLITZ-type check on DN 56 and stopped a minibus with Romanian registration plates for inspection.
The Ukrainian citizen was at the wheel. Checks in computer systems revealed that there was an international arrest warrant issued against him by the authorities of his country of origin.
A thorough inspection of the vehicle revealed an impressive sum of money: €343,700. This was hidden in several locations, both inside the car beneath various components and on the exterior, in the side areas.
Authorities confiscated the entire amount of cash and seized the minibus. The man was handed over to the police in Dolj County, and prosecutors at the Dolj County Court's Office launched an investigation for financial offences.
