Alexandru Costandachi, the vlogger known online under the name "The Vigilante from Berceni", is under house arrest after assaulting a 25-year-old man suspected of rape, according to ProTV News.
It all started with a 16-year-old girl who complained that she had been raped by the young man in question. Costandachi and a friend of his decided to intervene personally, without waiting for the authorities.
The two identified the suspect in traffic, on the streets of Ploiești, and set off in pursuit. The footage filmed by the vlogger himself — showing a chase through the city, cornering the suspect and violent scenes — was later posted online.
At the end of the episode, the vlogger and his friend called the police. However, the investigation led to the opening of two criminal files: one for the 25-year-old man, suspected of rape, and a second for the two who organised the "punishment" operation.
Costandachi and his friend, identified only as George, are accused of unlawful deprivation of liberty and assault and other violence. The rape suspect also filed a complaint against them and is being investigated while at liberty.
The vlogger explained how he ended up in this situation: "We were contacted by a young woman, she told us what happened to her, she explained that she was afraid to tell her parents, that she was afraid to go to the police alone." His friend George added: "It is an awkward situation, but we do not regret for a single second that we got involved."
The two consider themselves innocent. The rape suspect could not be reached to express a point of view.
