A 16-year-old boy died on Friday evening following a quarrel in Björklinge in Uppsala, according to svt.se. Another boy in his teens was arrested during the night and is now being held in custody, suspected of murder.
The alarm came shortly after 20:30 when police were called to an address in the area. At the scene, a seriously injured boy was found and transported to hospital by ambulance, but his life could not be saved.
"Both the suspect and the complainant are boys aged between 15 and 18," said police spokesperson Daniel Wikdahl.
According to police, the suspect came forward of his own volition to patrolling officers and was arrested on the spot. Police are not searching for any other suspects.
"The arrested person denies the allegations," said duty prosecutor Christoffer Envall to Aftonbladet.
Initially, police stated that the quarrel arose in connection with "a minor party," but Envall corrected that information.
"They got together with a few people. They were not indoors and it was not a party. Apart from the two involved, there were a few other people there, and there are witnesses of both sexes," said Envall.
Police state that they have an understanding of the motive, but do not wish to comment on it further at this early stage of the investigation.
The technical examination at the crime scene was completed during the night and cordons were lifted on Saturday morning, according to Wikdahl. On Saturday, interviews with witnesses and the arrested person were planned.
"A number of important interviews are to be conducted during the day and we do not wish to prejudge anything as we are at a very early stage and this is a serious crime," said prosecutor Elin Blank.
As a result of the incident, the church and youth centre in Björklinge chose to remain open longer on Saturday. Police have also contacted social services and the municipality's special crisis management.
