The Swedish Customs Agency has uncovered an extensive smuggling attempt in which nearly a quarter of a tonne of cannabis resin was concealed in a piece of furniture. Two people are charged with serious drug smuggling.

The Swedish Customs Agency has filed charges against two men for serious drug smuggling. During an inspection at the Öresund Bridge on 8 November last year, a van transporting a sofa was stopped. Inside the furniture, 246 kilograms of cannabis resin were hidden.
The seized goods have an estimated value of approximately 27 million Swedish kronor at street prices, according to the agency's own calculation.
Investigators suspect that a larger criminal network is behind the attempt to bring the large consignment of narcotics into Sweden.
– Currently the country is subject to an extremely high smuggling pressure. The gangs conducting this activity are using increasingly sophisticated methods, and the consignments being seized have generally grown in size, commented investigator Kasia Gorzka at the Swedish Customs Agency.
