A 34-year-old man, formerly employed by the Swedish Armed Forces, is charged with attempted espionage on behalf of Russia. He is said to have travelled to Moscow in November 2025 and met representatives of Russian intelligence services.

34-year-old charged with espionage on behalf of Russia
A 34-year-old man, who previously worked for the Swedish Armed Forces, has now been charged with attempted espionage on behalf of Russia. He has been in custody since the turn of the year.
Prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist argues that the defendant had access to information with very high protective value during his time in the defence sector. According to the prosecutor, the man travelled to Moscow in November last year to meet individuals from Russian intelligence and security services, with the aim of disclosing these classified details.
Ljungqvist describes the preliminary investigation as complicated and difficult to solve. In addition to the espionage charge, the man is also charged with unlawful harassment during the period from December 2025 to January 2026. He is furthermore remanded in custody on suspicion of involvement in preparation for murder.
