A 50-year-old woman from Markaryds municipality ordered amphetamine, cannabis and over 1,000 narcotics-classified tablets via post, according to laholmstidning.se. The consignment was stopped at the postal terminal in Partille before it reached the recipient. Instead of a package, the woman received a visit from police – and is now charged with three counts of attempted narcotics offences.
The case is an example of how the changed collaboration between Postnord and police is producing results. Since the postal law was amended in 2023, suspected consignments under two kilogrammes can also be reported and seized, something that was not previously possible.
"The difference is that you can also notify police about packages weighing under two kilogrammes that are suspected," said Michael Irani, head of preliminary investigation at police, to SVT earlier this year.
Police estimate that narcotics worth over one billion kronor are sent via post in Sweden every year.
