The prosecution authority has brought evidentiary proceedings against a boy who was 13 years old at the time of the alleged crime and is suspected of shooting several people in central Gävle in autumn, according to the authority in a press release reported by omni.se. Among the victims were people under 18 years of age.
The incident is classified as attempted murder – none of those shot died from their injuries. The prosecutor also assesses that none of them was the actual target of the shooting.
Connection to the Foxtrot network
According to several media outlets, Ali Shehab, a leading figure within the criminal Foxtrot network, is suspected of instructing the boy to carry out the act. Shehab is detained in absentia and was arrested in Iraq at the end of 2025, but has not yet been extradited to Sweden despite a formal request.
SVT Nyheter Gävleborg reports that the boy was contacted via TikTok by a person with suspected links to the Foxtrot network.
Evidentiary proceedings – an exception in the law
In Sweden, people under 15 years of age cannot be sentenced to a penalty for a crime. In cases of particularly serious crimes, however, the prosecutor can request that a court examine whether the young person actually committed the act – a so-called evidentiary proceeding. The court's decision is not recorded in the criminal register.
Stolen police weapon used
The boy was armed with two weapons during the shooting. One of them, a pistol of the brand Sig Sauer with the text "Belongs to the police" engraved on it, had been stolen from a police vehicle in Stockholm in 2018, according to Aftonbladet. The other weapon was found half a year after the shooting by a primary school child during a break in Uppsala, writes Dagens Nyheter.
Chat conversations that Gefle Dagblad has obtained show that the boy experienced problems with one of the weapons during the preparations.
