An elderly couple in Trosa received a call from an individual who claimed to represent a telephone company. The person offered them the opportunity to upgrade their subscription for a small fee, provided they verified their identity with BankID.
The couple followed the instructions and identified themselves. Shortly afterwards, an invoice for nearly 275,000 kronor arrived. When they refused to pay, they were threatened – the person demanded they pay at least 175,000 kronor, otherwise the full amount would be claimed.
The couple, however, stood their ground and contacted the police. Their bank cards were blocked in time, and the couple lost no money. A report for attempted fraud has been filed.
