A criminal group in Scania impersonated police and banks to defraud elderly people of money and jewellery. They travelled to Tenerife with the proceeds of their crimes.

A criminal group in Scania has been convicted of defrauding elderly people of significant sums through telephone fraud. One evening, they managed to persuade a couple in their 80s to hand over jewellery worth 207,000 kronor.
They called themselves "Robin Hood" and claimed they took from the rich to give to the needy. In reality, they used the money for a holiday trip to Tenerife, whilst other members continued ringing new victims.
The gang contacted older people across the country and pretended to represent authorities, insurance companies or credit institutions. They claimed that the victims had been subject to identity theft and attempted to get them to disclose their card details.
A 15-year-old person was recruited to launder money for the gang. The recruiter sent a message in which the group was compared to the legendary robber.
One of the victims described their own naivety by saying that one could almost feel "brain-dead" when one realised how easily one had been deceived.
The court has now issued its verdict in the case.
