According to omni.se, 35-year-old Othman Asalya, suspected of the double murder in Nässjö at the end of February, is likely in Gaza – something that has led to the preliminary investigation being frozen.
"We can essentially do nothing when he is in Gaza," says deputy prosecutor Emma Harrius to Sveriges Radio Ekot.
The prosecutor's theory is that Asalya fled to Gaza shortly after the suspected murder. He has been remanded in custody in his absence and is internationally wanted via Interpol.
Harrius told the radio that the hope is that Asalya will be caught at a border checkpoint. She also informed TV4 Nyheterna that Interpol has been brought in to issue an international wanted notice for him.
Asalya is suspected of having murdered two young men in Nässjö. Expressen previously reported that he was remanded in custody in his absence after leaving the country. The decision on remand in absence was initially reported by Smålands Dagblad.
