Another man arrested after sword attack at Swedish gymnasium in Fagersta
A man has been arrested on suspicion of complicity in murder following the sword attack at Brinellskolan in Fagersta. An 18-year-old is already held in pre-trial custody.
New arrest in sword attack case from Fagersta
Another man has been arrested in connection with the sword attack at the gymnasium Brinellskolan in the Swedish town of Fagersta, according to the Swedish prosecution authority, as reported to SVT – which Politiken references.
The man is suspected of complicity in murder and complicity in attempted murder. His age has not been disclosed, and it is unclear whether he is, like the primary suspect, a student at the school.
An 18-year-old man is already held in pre-trial custody charged with murder and attempted murder following the incident, which took place on Friday at the gymnasium with approximately 450 pupils. On Saturday, the Fagersta Municipality's education director confirmed to SVT that the 18-year-old is enrolled at the school.
The arrest of the second man is notable because police previously stated that they did not assume there were any additional perpetrators in the case.
During the attack, a 17-year-old girl was killed, whilst three other pupils were injured. Police received a report at 14:06 of "ongoing deadly violence" at the location. According to the information, the 18-year-old was wearing a helmet and a black elephant hat during the attack.
A shot was fired during the arrest of the primary suspect. Police spokesman Stefan Larsson stated on Saturday that it was one shot, but denied that the alleged perpetrator was hit.
"I have no information that the suspect perpetrator was hit by gunfire," Larsson told the Swedish media.
Police have neither confirmed whether it was a warning shot nor commented on a possible motive.
