Eurobattery Minerals Chief Executive Convicted in Spain – Now Also Suspected of Insider Trading in Sweden
Eurobattery Minerals chief executive and board member Roberto García Martínez has been convicted of fraud by a Spanish court, according to efn.se. The company made the announcement on Saturday.
The conviction concerns an investment in a mining project in Sierra Leone that was carried out in 2011. Spain's highest court upheld the verdict as final in January 2026. The sentence amounts to two years' imprisonment, fines, and a joint compensation claim of 3.46 million dollars. However, a lower court decided in spring 2026 that the prison sentence would be converted to a five-year suspended sentence.
In addition to the Spanish conviction, Sweden's Economic Crime Authority has notified García Martínez of suspicion of three cases of serious insider trading, linked to dealings in Eurobattery Minerals' own financial instruments.
The company's board states that it is investigating the course of events and will provide further information. The share has been halted from trading pending further notice since a press release on Tuesday afternoon. Dagens industri already disclosed the reason for the trading halt on Friday.
Eurobattery Minerals is a Swedish mining company developing projects in Europe for the extraction of critical raw materials. The share is traded on Nordic Growth Market and Börse Stuttgart.
